Materials and function — Pump Protector
Materials and Construction
The PurMotors Fuel Pump Protector is a filter element made of polyester non-woven fabric. It is placed inside the fuel tank, above or around the pump assembly, forming a mechanical barrier against solid contaminants suspended in the fuel.
- Fabric: Polyester non-woven fabric
- Filtration rating: 25 micron
- Type: Disposable — non-washable, non-regenerable
Function
The Pump Protector intercepts sediments, oxidation residues, and solid debris before they reach the pump assembly. It reduces the pump's exposure to contaminants present in the fuel, helping to limit its mechanical wear over time.
The Pump Protector does not replace the pump's original filter; it acts as an additional protective element upstream of the filter itself.
Position in the PurMotors Protection System
The PurMotors system provides multiple levels of independent and complementary protection:
- Pump Protector (MFPP) — intercepts solids at 25 microns, acts internally on the pump assembly
- Pump Pre-Filter (MPPF) — pump suction filter / Injection Protection, with different function and position
- H2O-Stop — separates and retains free water and impurities during refueling or before entering the tank
The three systems operate distinctly and can be used individually or in combination.
Not to be confused with
- H2O-Stop: separates and retains free water and impurities during refueling or before entering the tank. It is complementary to the Pump Protector, which, in contrast, works internally on the pump assembly.
- Pump Pre-Filter (MPPF): pump suction filter / Injection Protection. It operates with different functions and positions compared to the Pump Protector.
- Original pump filter: the Pump Protector is an addition to the original filter, not a replacement. The original filter should be maintained according to the vehicle manufacturer's instructions.
